My Name Is Shruthi is a Telugu-language crime thriller written and directed by Srinivas Omkhar. The film has Hansika Motwani playing the lead role while Prema, Murali Sharma, Pooja Ramachandran, Sai Tej, Raja Ravindra, Praveen, Adukulam Naren, V.Jayaprakash & others are seen in key supporting roles. The music is composed by Mark K Robin and the film is produced by Burugu Ramya Prabhakar under under Vaishnavi Arts banner.

Story:

The film deals with an intriguing concept around skin mafia. Shruthi (Hansika Motwani) is a concept designer in an ad agency who is in love with her cousin Charan (Sai Tej). But one day Shruthi kills Charan in some forced circumstances and locks him up in a bathtub as she leaves home. After some time when Shruthi comes back, she finds Charan missing and finds Anu’s (Pooja Ramachandran) dead body in the bathtub. What happened to Shruthi’s cousin? Who killed Anu? How are all these incidents connected to the skin mafia? How does Shruthi come out of all this mess? Need to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Hansika Motwani is the lone warrior who runs the film on her shoulders with her captivating performance. Though she has very less to do in the first half of the film, it is the latter half where she shines well and justifies her part perfectly. She is especially good towards the climax portions.

Veteran actress Prema plays an important role as a Cosmetologist and she is pretty decent in her part. But her role is sidelined after her intro in the first half.

Murali Sharma who comes into the film after the interval, delivers an excellent performance as the ACP who is investigating the case.

Pooja Ramachandran leaves a mark in her grey-shaded role as Anu.

Praveen does a neat job in a key role as the family member of Shruthi.

Adukulam Naren is just about fine as the main villain in the film.

Raja Ravindra, V.Jayaprakash, Dayanand Reddy, Darbha Appaji Ambarisha, CVL.Narasimha Rao and the rest of the supporting actors are okay in their limited roles.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Srinivas Omkhar is okay. It deals with an interesting concept that revolves skin mafia which hasn’t been explored much in Indian cinema till date.

However, his screenplay is not up to the mark. The entire first half is quite boring with few half-baked scenes and too many characters coming in. He leaves us with many questions towards the interval. Though he connects the dots quite well in the latter half, the engaging factor & racy narration that is required for a thriller isn’t tapped to the full potential.

Director Srinivas Omkhar picks up a fresh concept but his narrative is pretty underwhelming. Though the film’s central plot runs around skin mafia, this topic isn’t explored or talked about much in the film as the film shifts gears mid-way and turns into a murder mystery putting the main core point of skin mafia aside which is a big disappointment.

The dialogues are just about fine. There is nothing special in them to talk about in particular. And the dubbing of a few supporting artists is not up to the mark as the lip sync in a few scenes is missing.

Songs by Mark. K. Robin are forgettable as the film doesn’t require any kind of songs. But his background score is impressive.

The camera work by Kishore Boyidapu is superb. He captures the film quite well for its genre and his framing is neat.

The edit by Chota K Prasad needed a bit of sharpness, especially in the second half of the film.

The production values by Vaishnavi Arts are adequate.

What’s Hot?

* Hansika Motwani’s Performance
* Interesting Concept Of Skin Mafia
* Good Second Half
* Cinematography & Production Values

What’s Not?

* Uninteresting Narration
* Boring First Half
* Unwanted Songs
* Half Baked Sub Plots
* Editing
* Lip Sync Issues In Dubbing

Verdict: On the whole, My Name Is Shruthi is an okayish crime thriller with a decent second half. The film is promoted on an interesting concept of Skin mafia but the film talks very little on it as it eventually turns into a murder mystery thriller towards the end. Can give it a shot on OTT.
