Leo starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role is carrying good expectations among the audience. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is said to be Lokesh Kanagaraj’s LCU(Lokesh cinematic universe). Co-starring Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and Kollywood star Arjun in key roles, the film is out for public viewing today. Let’s see how it fares.
Story:
Parthiban (Vijay) leads a happy life with his family at a hill station near Himachal Pradesh by establishing a bakery. One fine day, in a quarrel with killer gang, Parthiban surrenders before the court. Next day, in the leading newspapers news regarding Parthiban flashes. After seeing it, underworld criminal ( role played by Sanjay Dutt) comes to the hill station for Leo. Who is Leo? What is his backstory and how is he connected with Sanjay Dutt? How the proceedings are interconnected with LCU, forms crucial crux.
On screen performances:
Thalapathy Vijay is good in his performance oriented role. He gave a convincing acting in the role that has two dimensions. Especially, his performance is superb in emotional scenes. The family scenes involving Vijay, Trisha and their kid came out nicely during the first half of the film.
On actors like Sanjay Dutt and Arjun gave a convincing performance in their respective key roles.
Apart from the above mentioned actors, the film also has Priya Anand among others in a limited screen presence are okay in their respective roles. Gautam Vasuseva Menon has played a full length role in this movie, he did justice to the role as a ranger.
Off-screen talents:
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s idea of dealing the script by interlinking it with his cinematic universe is fine but would have worked more on the second half portions to keep the proceedings interesting. Apart from dull and flat narrative in the meantime,some portions look forced and unwanted.
Anirudh’s background score is outstanding and up lifts most of the scenes. The other aspects like cinematography and editing are okay but not upto the mark.
Production values for this star-studded project are lavish. Other departments like Art and production design are apt to the film.

Verdict:
In an overview, Leo is a decent outing from Lokesh cinematic universe which has a few moments in both the halves. If you are a fan of LCU, Leo will end up as a once time watch during this festival weekend but have keep a check on your expectations.

8:30 PM EST: Movie starts in Theog, Himachal Pradesh. Hyena attacks the villagers, Animal rescuer Parthiban (Vijay) fights with it and tranquilizes the animal. Hyena flight scene is good.
9.15 PM EST: Parthiban runs a coffee shop in the town, a contract killer gang enters the town and kills people. Confrontation scene with the killer gang is good.
9.45 PM EST: Parthiban kills the gang, he gets into depression. He has a threat from other members of the gang.
10.00 PM EST: First half of Leo is the story of a middle aged common man Parthiban and sequence of events after he confronts with a killer gang. Screenplay is fast for the most part, Anirudh’s BGM is good.
Final Report:
Overall Leo is a good action entertainer. Movie revolves around Parthiban and his back story. Anirudh’s BGM is good, cinematography and screenplay are good for most part. The conflict point is not strong as it should be. Not the strongest movie in LCU.
