Konaseema Thugs is a Telugu dubbed action crime thriller directed by popular choreographer Brinda. The film has Hridhu Haroon & Bobby Simha playing lead roles while K Suresh, Munishkanth, Anaswara Rajan, Sarath Appani, PL Thenappan & others are seen in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Sam CS and the film is produced by Riya Shibu & Mumthas M under HR Pictures banner in association with Jio Studios.

Story:

Seshu (Hridhu Haroon) falls for a girl named Koila (Anaswara Rajan) at the first sight. Later, due to a few unexpected incidents, he finds himself in Kakinada jail. There, he meets Dora (Bobby Simha) and Madhu (Munishkanth). After a few days in jail, Seshu plans to escape from the prison along with Dora, Madhu, and with the help of a few other inmates. Will they all succeed in escaping from prison? Why did Seshu get arrested? What are their backstories? Needs to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Hridhu Haroon is sincere and gives out a natural performance as Seshu. He has a decent screen presence and the way he carried his character is good. Also, the manner in which he performed all the action sequences is impressive.

Bobby Simha as usual does an excellent job as Dora. He elevates certain scenes with his amazing screen presence, especially toward the climax portions.

Munishkanth is pretty decent in his role as Madhu. He is the only comic relief in the film and a couple of his scenes are hilarious.

Anaswara Rajan is adorable on screen and she does her short and limited role neatly.

RK Suresh is good as the police officer while Sarath Appani, PL Thenappan, and the rest of the cast are okay in their respective roles.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Shibu Thameens is nothing new as it reminds us of many prison escape movies made in the past. Having a plot like this, the backstories of the lead actors should be arresting and emotional, but the film doesn’t get this right.

The screenplay is very predictable. There is not even a single sequence that completely grabs our attention. The slow pace is another major drawback of the film. The Telugu dialogues are fine.

The film is directed by a renowned choreographer named Brinda who has earlier directed Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Hey Sinamika’ in the past. Her presentation is flawless and she has proved that she can handle big-scale action films. But her narrative style is very boring and she should have taken more care in writing the backstories and incorporating some high moments into the plot.

The background score by Sam CS is outstanding. His trendy music uplifts a few scenes to a different level.

The cinematography by Priyesh Gurusamy is brilliant. All his camera moments are spot on and the way he shot all the action parts deserves more credit.

Special mention to the action choreography by Rajasekar & Phoenix Prabhu. All the fight scenes are grand on screen.

The production values are first-rate.

What’s Hot?

  • Hridhu Haroon’s Performance
  • Bobby Simha’s Performance
  • Production Values
  • Background Score
  • Cinematography
  • Munishkanth’s Comedy At Few Places
  • Action Choreography

What’s Not?

  • Boring Narrative
  • Slow Pace
  • Lack Of Engaging Scenes & High Moments
  • Uninteresting Characters
  • Many Illogical Scenes
  • Half Baked Love Track
  • Zero Emotional Connect

Verdict: Overall, Konaseema Thugs is an unengaging action thriller with a routine plot and utterly boring narrative that has a lot of Tamil flavor peppered all around it. Though the film is high on its technicalities, the writing completely lets the film down.
