The central government on Saturday revealed that the National anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and the National song ‘Vande Mataram’ have equal status and they both stand on the same level.
In reply to a Public Internet Litigation (PIL) filed in the Delhi High Court, the centre said that every citizen of the country should show equal respect to ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and ‘Vande Mataram’.
Petitioner, advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay brought to the notice of the court that Vande Mataram played a vital role in India’s freedom struggle. In the current situation, the petition asked that Vande Mataram should also be accorded equal respect with Jana Gana Mana.
Ashwini Kumar appealed to the court to give appropriate orders to all schools and educational institutions to sing Vande Mataram and Jana Gana Mana every day. As part of the investigation, the Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Union Home, Education, Culture and Law Ministries to give an answer on this matter. The Center responded to these notices and revealed that both will have equal status.
