Noted Malayalam filmmaker KS Sethumadhavan has passed away at his residence in Chennai this morning. He was 90.
The prominent director of South India was suffering from age-related problems for some time. He is survived by his wife Valsala Sethumadhavan; three children: Santosh, Uma and Sonukumar.
Born in 1931 in Palakkad, Kerala, his full name is K. Subrahmanyam Sethumadhavan. He started his career as a director in the Malayalam film industry in 1961 and has shot over 60 films in Tamil, Kannada and Hindi.
Sethumadhavan, who won 10 national awards and 8 state awards, was bestowed the J. C. Daniel Award for lifetime contributions in 2009.
Notably, KS Sethumadhavan has introduced Universal hero Kamal Haasan in Malayalam as a child artiste in ‘Kannum Karalum’ in 1962. His most acclaimed movies are Odayil Ninnu, Sthanarthi Saramma, Daham, Koottukudumbam Ara Nazhika Neram, Vazhve Mayam, Anubhavangal Palichakal, among others.
