Andhra Pradesh government said that the Central Government is yet to reimburse Rs. 2,033 Crores to the state government in the Polavaram project. The Polavaram Project was nationalised after the Central government took the decision to nationalise all the irrigation projects in the Telugu states, which also means that the Centre would have to bear the costs of the project up to a certain extent.
At a review meeting held on Friday, on the Polavaram project, CM Jagan is said to have requested the concerned authorities to get the necessary funds from the Central government. On the other hand, the works on the upper cofferdam along with the concrete dam have been completed, where water can be drawn to canals by the next Kharif, and officials are said to have assured Jagan that the completion of the lower cofferdam works will be done by November and that the work will begin the Earth-cum-Rock Fill dam.
Reviewing other irrigation projects, Jagan is said to have directed the concerned officials to speed up the construction of a second tunnel of the Veligonda project and to take appropriate steps for the construction of the Neredi barrage, after discussing with the Odisha state. The phase-2 works of the Vamsadhara projects are expected to be completed by May 2022, and the steps to provide water under the Thotapalli barrage by the end of the coming Kharif are being taken.
