Ek Mini Katha is one of the first mainstream Telugu films to go the OTT way after theatres shut operations due to Covid second wave. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Story:

Santhosh(Santhosh Shobhan) suffers from inferiority complex pertaining to the size of private part. His father misinterprets his intentions and gets him married to Amrutha(Kavya Thapar). He then decides to undergo an enlargement surgery but all all breaks lose after the surgery fails for an unnatural reason. What does Santhosh do next?

What about on-screen performances?

Santhosh looks settled and he delivers a matured performance. He doesn’t go overboard and fits the role quite well. His body language and mannerisms are on point. Kavya Thapar comes up with a decent performance. Bramhaji plays the male lead’s father and he delivers what is expected of him. Sudharshan and Sapthagiri evoke a few laughs here and there. Shraddha Das’s brief cameo doesn’t pack too big of a punch.

What about off-screen talents?

Merlapaka Gandhi’s story is an interesting one and this template has never been explored in Tollywood till now. But unnecessary subplots and patchy screenplay result in a stretched out second half. A few scenes which needed more of a serious approach have been messed up with incoherent comedy. Karthik Rapolu extracts the best from his actors and does a fairly decent job as a director. But he doesn’t keep the audience engaged all the way through.

The visual presentation is impressive, thanks to the good work from the man behind the lens Gokul. Music by Pravin Lakkaraju is excellent and so is the background score. Editing could have been better. Production values are good.

What’s Hot?

Santhosh Shobhan’s performance
Comedy track & A few adult dialogues
Opening 45 minutes
Storyline and message

What’s Not?

Stretched out scenes
Unnecessary subplots
Boring second half
Weak climax
Lengthy run-time
Uneven narrative

Verdict:

“Does size matter” is the tag line of the film and it pretty much sums up the entire story. The film gets off to a bright start but loses steam later, owing to patchy screenplay. Lengthy run-time acts against cause. The climax should have been better.

Watch It or Not: Might give it a try if you have too much time to spare.
