The Central Water Board (CWC) has made several changes in the design of the Polavaram National Project Headworks (reservoir). To that extent, it has directed the State Water Resources Department to undertake additional works.
The Union govt has made it clear that it will reimburse the cost of additional work. The government has given the green signal to undertake additional works at Polavaram Headworks as per the CWC directives. State Water Resources Secretary J Shyamala Rao revised the estimated cost of headworks from Rs 5,535.41 crore to Rs 7,192.02 crore.
The Central Water Energy Department has set up a Dam Design Review Panel (DDRP) headed by former CWC Chairman AB Pandya to assist the State Water Resources Department in the design of the Polavaram project.
Thus, the DDRP examined the designs designed by the State Water Resources Department, reviewed them at the field level, made changes and finally recommended to the CWC. All those designs were examined and approved by the CWC.
