Thousands of farmers across India have been protesting against the three farm laws which were recently implemented by the Central government. Farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana are protesting at Delhi border since November 2020, seeking withdrawal of the controversial farm laws and legal guarantee of least support price for their crops.
On January 26, Republic Day, the farmers’ tractor rally in Delhi went out of the control and resulted in a big chaos. While the farmers are still fighting against the Centre, the issue has reached globally and drawn the attention of celebrities across the world.
International pop sensation Rihanna, who has global chartbusters like ‘Diamonds’ and ‘Umbrella’ to her credit, has brought the international attention to the issue by stretching her support to the ongoing farmers’ protest. She posted a tweet asking why no one has been talking about it. The pop singer was praised by a section of social media users for speaking up on the farmer issue.
Following her tweet, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, Kamala Harris’ niece Meena Harris, Lebanese-American former adult star Mia Khalifa, Canadian YouTuber Lily Singh and many other tweeted in support to the farmers.
However, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut had quite a rude reaction to Rihanna’s tweet where she called the protesters as terrorists.
why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest https://t.co/obmIlXhK9S
