Recently, the Madhya Pradesh Congress party is embroiled in a controversy. The controversy is that Sajjan Singh Verma, a former Congress minister, questioned that when a girl was able to reproduce by the age of 15, why is it necessary to raise the minimum age of marriage for women to 21 years? This has sparked a political controversy in Madhya Pradesh. BJP and women’s groups are demanding his removal from the party.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan launched a program called ‘Samman’. This program will last for a fortnight and will raise awareness about crime against women. During the inauguration of this program, Shivraj Singh Chauhan suggested raising the minimum age of marriage for women to 21 years.
Responding to this, Mr. Verma, argued that, “Girls can reproduce by the age of 15, but only after the age of 18, they are mature enough to get married. Then what’s the matter of raising this minimum age to 21 years?”
