The GHMC is reeling under severe financial crunch where they are struggling to pay out the salaries of the staff these days. Under these tough situations, the committee members have decided to gift themselves with brand new iPhone 12 Pro max (512GB) variant which cost 1.6Lakhs each (approx).
For the last few months, the committee members have been demanding the smartphones for all the 155 corporators and five co-option members as they are demitting the office in February 2021. After realising that it would cost over Rs 2.50 crore which they feel is too expensive, the committee members decided to restrict the privilege only to themselves.
On Thursday, a meeting chaired by the GHMC Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan, the committee approved its proposal and these 17 new I Phones will take a total expense to Rs 27.23 lakh.
This is a bomb of an expense considering the present situation in GHMC and everyone is tightlipped and wore a deadpan expression when they were contacted about this good news. Are they feeling any guilt here?
