While one state after the other is supporting the ongoing Bharat Bandh that is being done opposing the news bills passed in the parliament in favour of the corporate agriculture, it is high time for AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to reconsider his extended support to the center.
Jagan said that he is going to stand with the center as he had supported the bills in the parliament in a tactical way. But now, the situation has turned completely worse. At the same time, KCR’s speech against the law brought by the Center was very embarrassing to Jagan. KCR said he is supporting the Bharat Bandh, which is being held on Tuesday against the agricultural law.
KCR declared his full support for the farmers’ movement against the law brought by the Center. KCR’s attitude here may be politically strategic. But it also seems to focus on the growing peasant movement and a perfect opportunity to revoke his plans for the federal front.
Opposition to Jagan has been growing ever since KCR publicly declared his opposition. The point to note here is that no matter what happens in both states, the decision taken in one state will inevitably have an impact on the second state as well. The same is happening in the case of this agricultural law.
On the other hand, BJP is the rival for YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh. So, nothing is stopping Jagan to garner more mileage by going against them. But he is safely negotiating any enmity with Modi at the moment.
As Jagan did not take a positive decision, the police would not let the farmers ‘unions and farmers’ sections of political parties hit the road as part of the bandh. It is well known that trade unions and bank employees’ unions have also expressed support for farmers’ concerns.
So it became interesting to see how the government is reacting to the leaders of political parties, labor and trade unions as part of the Bharat Bandh. This is the high time for Jagan to reconsider his decision one day or the other. Otherwise he has to hope that this movement gets suppressed without affecting his stand at the earliest.
