In shocking news, seven members of the England cricket team including three players and four staff members have tested positive for Covid-19.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), however, not revealed the names of players who contracted the virus. The board said in a statement that the English team is currently in isolation.
“Following RTPCR tests administered yesterday (Monday) in Bristol, The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) can confirm that seven members – three players and four management team members – of the England Men’s ODI party have tested positive for COVID-19,” the ECB said in a statement.
England, meanwhile, is scheduled to play six limited-overs matches against Pakistan from Wednesday. However, they have said that the upcoming limited-overs series against Pakistan will go as planned.
Instead of Eoin Morgan, all-rounder Ben Stokes will don the captain hat and lead the team against Pakistan which will be announced on Tuesday.
“We have been mindful that the emergence of the Delta variant, along with our move away from the stringent enforcement of biosecure environments, could increase the chances of an outbreak,” Tom Harrison, the ECB’s chief executive, said.
