An explosion rattled an area outside Hamid Karzai International Airport in the capital of Afghanistan on Thursday. As per reports, the twin suicide attacks killed at least 13 people and wounded another 15.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a U.S. military base. The explosion occurred just hours after Western governments had warned of a security threat there. Three U.S. security personnel were also injured in the incident.
The blasts happened outside the airport, where thousands of Afghans have gathered, expecting to join board any aircraft that leaves the country.
A senior U.S. official had warned on Wednesday night of a particular and credible threat by an affiliate of the Islamic State, the Islamic State Khorasan, or ISIS-K, against the airport.
After the concerns were raised about the security, some countries had announced that their airlift evacuations were being halted in Kabul airport.
