A total of 14 individuals have passed away after consuming sanitizers in the place of alcohol, as they were not able to get hold of alcohol.
This incident took place in Prakasam district, Kurichedu mandal, where two people who are regularly found in front of the goddess’s temple were consuming sanitizer for a few days now. Thursday night, after a severe burning sensation in the stomach, a person passed away on spot. The other person was experiencing a similar kind of sensation, after which he was admitted in the Darsi hospital by the localites. This person passed away while still receiving treatment in the hospital.
A person named Kadiyam Ramanayya, who stays near the Kurichedu police station, also consumed sanitizer along with Naatu Sara, even after the local people advised him against it. Ramanayya started to feel not so well by night, and then his family members immediately rushed him to the hospital. On arrival, the doctors had declared that Ramanayya had already died while in transit.
Additionally, from all those who have consumed alcohol in Kurichedu, 6 have died this morning, and 1 died this afternoon. These people have been experiencing a shortage of alcohol as no shops are opening up due to the widespread outbreak of Coronavirus in the state.
The district SP, Siddhrath Kaushal has said that investigation on the matter is being done and that they are speaking to the affected families in this regard.
