As many as 13 Maoists were gunned down in an encounter with the C-60 unit of Maharashtra Police in a forest between Potegaon and Rajoli in eastern Vidarbha’s Gadchiroli on Friday.
As per reports, the C-60 commandos had eliminated the Maoists in a camp near a village. The security forces have recovered some firearms, weapons and important literature and other materials from the encounter site.
According to DIG Sandip Patil, the operation was a colossal success for Maharashtra Police and there is a chance that more Maoists were executed during the encounter.
Reports suggest that the Naxals belonging to Kasansoor dalam were seeking to set up a meeting with the villagers. The police, who got a hint of it, stormed into the camp of Maoists. The commandos from Gadchiroli and Aheri’s Pranhita headquarters took part in this operation.
