In a tragic incident, at least 12 labourers were killed in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra as a vehicle carrying them overturned on Friday.
As per reports, the accident happened near Dusarbid village at Tadegaon Phata on Sindkhedraja-Mehkar Road around noon. The workers were being taken for the job on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway project.
A total of 16 labourers were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. Besides carrying the people, the truck was also transporting steel for the highway project.
“The vehicle was speeding, and it overturned because of a large pothole on the road. At least 12 labourers were killed and others suffered injuries,” Buldhana superintendent of police Arvind Chavria said.
While the officials took some of the injured to a state-run hospital in Jalna district, others were shifted to Sindhkhedraja hospital. Most of these labourers were from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
